Leith's Regeneration

Leith is one of Edinburgh’s most vibrant and distinctive neighbourhoods, known for its creative energy, historic waterfront and thriving food and drink scene.

The people of Leith (Leithers!) are proud of the neighbourhood’s independent streak befitting as Leith only joined with Edinburgh in the 1920s.

Historically Leith was one of the more affordable areas of Edinburgh

Once Scotland’s busiest port, Leith has transformed into a dynamic district filled with independent shops, award‑winning restaurants, artisan cafés, coworking, flexible workspaces and cultural venues.

The Shore area offers scenic riverside walks, stylish bars and some of the city’s best dining, while Leith Walk and the tram to Newhaven connects the neighbourhood directly to Edinburgh city centre with excellent transport links. Visitors and locals enjoy exploring Leith’s mix of maritime heritage, modern developments and community‑driven spaces.

From the Royal Yacht Britannia to weekly markets, galleries and live music, Leith offers something for everyone. With its strong identity, welcoming atmosphere and growing business community, Leith has become one of Edinburgh’s most desirable places to live, work and explore

I am particularly fond of Leith having launched a coworking and office space there 5 years ago as well as sitting on the renewed Leith Chamber of Commerce board.

Leith has a very cool vibe it reminds me of a mix between Amsterdam (especially the Shore area) and Camden with a Scottish twist of course.

Leith is ideal for tech, creative, charities and media businesses.

There’s lots to do and see here for tourists and locals. From the annual Leith Festival to the amazing Leith Distillery.

Leith For Business

Leith has a great well connected business scene and is a popular area for tech, creative, media and F&B businesses as well has a solid base for charities and non-profits.

Major employers in the area include Forth Ports, Leith Agency, Zudo and The Scottish Government.

The area is well placed with flexible business space including Commercial Quay and Great Michael House.

Custom House hosts an excellent creator/maker space.

A number of small and larger coworking spaces can also be found.

The historic Leith Chamber of Commerce was renewed in 2023 and hosts regular events in partnership with Edinburgh Chamber.

In 2022 Leith Business Networking was launched hosting free monthly networking events.
